How much does AC servicing cost in Nigeria?

Updated 23 October 2026 · By the Fixgent team

Short answer

A routine service on a split unit (cleaning the filters, coils and drain, and checking the gas) usually costs ₦8,000 to ₦40,000 per unit in 2026. Lagos marketplace listings sit at the lower end (about ₦8,000–₦20,000); national guides that include a gas top-up quote ₦15,000–₦40,000. Installing a unit you already bought is roughly ₦10,000 to ₦80,000 in labour, depending on pipe length and wall work.

What changes the price

  • Gas. A top-up after a small loss is cheap; a leak has to be found and fixed first, or the gas escapes again within weeks. Ask what was fixed, not just what was refilled.
  • Access. Outdoor units on a high wall or roof need ladders or scaffolding and take longer.
  • Number of units. Many technicians charge less per unit when they service three or four in one visit.
  • Where you are. Island areas of Lagos and central Abuja are usually quoted higher than the mainland or smaller cities.
  • Parts. Capacitors, fan motors and PCBs are priced separately from the labour.

How often to service

Most technicians suggest a clean every three to six months in Nigerian conditions: dust in the dry season and heavy use in the hot months clog filters quickly. A dirty unit cools less and draws more power, which matters when you are paying for generator fuel.

You can rinse the indoor filters yourself every few weeks. Leave the coils, drain line and gas to a technician.

How to avoid paying twice

  • Agree the price for the visit before work starts, and that any extra part needs your OK first.
  • Ask the technician to show you the pressure reading or the fault, especially before a gas refill.
  • Use a stabiliser or voltage protector: power surges are a common reason for repeat repairs.
  • Keep the receipt or booking record so a repeat fault within days is fixed at no charge.

Questions people ask

How much is AC gas refilling in Nigeria?

Sources rarely list gas on its own. Service-plus-gas prices run from about ₦15,000 to ₦40,000 per split unit; a full recharge after a leak repair costs more. Get the leak fixed first.

Is it cheaper to service several ACs at once?

Usually, yes. Travel and setup are shared, so many technicians reduce the per-unit price for multiple units at one address.

How long does an AC service take?

About 45 minutes to an hour and a half per split unit for a standard clean, longer if the drain is blocked or the outdoor unit is hard to reach.
