Check what the quote covers
Many electrical quotes are labour only. Cables, sockets, switches, breakers and conduit can double the bill, and cable quality matters for safety. Ask for the brand and size of cable in writing.
What changes the price
- New build or rewiring. Rewiring an occupied house means chasing walls and making good, which takes longer.
- Materials. Copper cable prices follow the exchange rate.
- City. Lagos and Abuja are usually the most expensive; Ibadan, Kano and Aba are often cheaper.
- Inverter or solar changeover. Separating circuits for backup power adds points and time.
Safety first
- Repeated tripping, burning smells or warm sockets need an electrician soon, not a bigger fuse.
- Ask for an earth (grounding) check when you move into a new place.
- Keep a note of which breaker controls which circuit once the job is done.

What does 'per point' mean in wiring?
Each socket, switch or light outlet is a point. Quotes per point make it easier to compare electricians for the same job.
How long does it take to wire a 3-bedroom flat?
For new wiring, usually several days to two weeks depending on the crew and the number of points.
Can an electrician connect my inverter?
Yes. Make sure they plan which circuits go on backup, so heavy loads such as pumping machines don't drain the batteries.
