How much does a solar installation cost in Nigeria?

Updated 23 October 2026 · By the Fixgent team

Short answer

In 2026 a complete 3kVA solar system costs roughly ₦1.2 million to ₦3.5 million and a 5kVA system about ₦2.2 million to ₦4.8 million, with some premium setups above that. The batteries are the biggest cost: lithium is more expensive up front but lasts much longer than tubular or lead-acid. Installation and accessories add about ₦200,000–₦500,000.

Size the system to your load first

The right size depends on what you want to run and for how long. List the appliances (fridge, fans, TV, lights, pumping machine, AC) and their hours. Air conditioners and pumping machines change the size dramatically, which is why two “5kVA” quotes can differ by millions of naira.

What changes the price

  • Battery chemistry and capacity. Lithium costs more but lasts many more cycles than tubular or lead-acid.
  • Inverter brand and warranty. Ask who honours the warranty in Nigeria.
  • Panel count and mounting. Roof type and cable runs affect labour.
  • Exchange rate. Most equipment is imported, so prices move with the naira.

Before you pay a deposit

  • Get a written load calculation and a component list with brands and model numbers.
  • Compare at least two quotes for the same battery capacity in kWh, not just the kVA rating.
  • Ask about after-sales support and who to call if the inverter trips.
  • Avoid paying the full amount before delivery; stage payments or use a platform that holds the money.

Questions people ask

Is solar cheaper than running a generator?

Over several years it often is, because petrol at ₦1,100–₦1,500 per litre adds up quickly. The payback depends on your load and how many hours you'd otherwise run a generator.

Can a 3kVA system run an air conditioner?

Usually not comfortably for long. ACs need a larger inverter and much more battery capacity.

How long do solar batteries last?

Lithium batteries typically last many more charge cycles than tubular or lead-acid batteries, which is why they cost more up front.
